Competitiveness 4 Artisans

“Competitiveness 4 Artisans” is a project which was supported by Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway through the EEA and Norway Grants and ran between May 2023 – April 2024. The project focused on providing necessary knowledge for artisans in order to be able to set up their own business, to maintain it and to promote their goods properly in the digital world.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic situations the number of organised sales at various fairs and local markets has decreased dramatically and product promotion has moved to the online space since then and although the restrictions are not available now, it had an enormous impact on peoples’ purchasing habits. Since the pandemic started the demand for digital marketing has increased, the market gap of artisans increased, the customer behaviours changed, and the marketplaces to sell products reduced.

“Competitiveness 4 Artisans” meant to revolve around the topic of digital marketing and sales for small and medium enterprises working in the manufacturing sector, namely artisans. The objective of the project was to increase the competitiveness of artisans and enable them to be better entrepreneurs by providing them with proper knowledge and digital skills.

The training events that meant to reach the above mentioned objective were the following:

The specific competencies we wanted to teach the target group were the following: create a webpage/shop in order to have a safe digital space where they can promote their goods; digital design of photos and videos; digital communication and public relations.

Project Events

The first events of the project were 4 training sessions in october-november of 2023. The training events were meant to develop the skills of artisans, to increase their competitiveness and enable them to become better entrepreneurs. The training sessions provided them with knowledge and digital skill in the following topics: digital marketing through social media, creating and editing digital visual and audio materials, digital marketing through websites and shops, public relations in the digital era.

Moodle courses

To reach a broader audience and to provide knowledge and skills for even more artisans, the training events were transformed into Moodle courses. The participants of these courses had the opportunity to learn about all four topics through videos and written materials. After finishing the courses they could obtain a certificate.

Closing event

The project was closed with an event organised for artisans on the 20th of April 2024. On this one-day event, we presented the project, its results and also organised three workshops in the following topics:
– Digital marketing through social media
– Creating and editing visual materials for promotion
– Public relations in the digital era.
After the workshops the participants and kids were invited to take part in handicraft workshops, like: decorating Easter eggs with wax and paint, modelling using clay, making paper flowers and friendship bracelets, and painting plaster figurines.
